Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias, accompanying Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, will participate in the proceedings of the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations Organization, which will take place from 25 September to 2 October 2015, in New York City.
In parallel with the Prime Minister’s programme, Mr. Kotzias will have successive bilateral and multilateral meetings with counterparts, with officials from other countries, and with representatives of international organizations. He will also be speaking publicly, and these events will be announced in the usual manner.
Indicatively, Mr. Kotzias will meet with his counterparts from the U.S., Russia, the Republic of Cyprus, Turkey, Egypt, Kosovo, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Argentina, Australia and Norway, and he will also meet with the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, and with the Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation, Iyad Ameen Madani.
On a multilateral level, Mr. Kotzias will participate in coordinating meetings of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union, NATO, the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).
Additionally, Mr. Kotzias will take part in the Meeting of World Leaders for Gender Equality, the event for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Terrorist Groups, the Ministerial Meeting on the Crisis in Syria, and the High Level event ahead of the Global Humanitarian Summit. He will also participate in the Security Council’s Open Ministerial Debate on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Settlement of Conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa and Countering the Terrorist Threat in the Region”, which will be chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and the High Level event on OSCE peacekeeping operations, which will be chaired by Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic.
On the margins of the General Assembly, a trilateral ministerial meeting between Greece, Cyprus and Egypt will be held to look at recent developments in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region and ways to strengthen trilateral cooperation on every level.
Finally, during his stay in New York, Mr. Kotzias will hold a series of meetings with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, with representatives of Greek American organizations, and with Jewish organizations.
