Game of Thrones season 7 premiere delay ‘due to winter’

Producers holding off start for 'grey winter' conditions

Newsroom July 7 10:06

“Game of Thrones” fans may need to wait around a little longer for winter to finally show up. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss showed up for a UFC Unfiltered podcast and spilled some information about the production schedule for season 7. What we learned is that no air date is set and that filming may be delayed thanks to the cheerful sunny weather currently happening at the show’s usual filming locations. The showrunners are holding out for “grim, grey weather” to get the wintry look necessary for the dark final days of “Game of Thrones.” The season premieres normally happen in March or April. Season 6 kicked off on April 24. A late start to filming could potentially push back the usual premiere time for season 7. There is already an open question around how many episodes are left in the series. We know the writers intend to cover two more seasons, but those seasons are expected to be shorter than the usual 10 episodes apiece.Perhaps a truncated schedule will help the showrunners deliver next season at around the usual time. If not, hungry fans may just have to be patient when it comes to finding out the fate of their favourite (and least-favourite) characters.
