Greece’s central bank on Sunday is expected to request that the European Central Bank raise the ceiling on the Emergency Liquidity Assistance funds for battered Greek banks.
Government spokesman Gavriil Sakellaridis told a private television station in Athens that “the Bank of Greece will make a request today (Sunday), and we believe there is valid reason for there to be an increase in ELA liquidity… there is no reason not to increase liquidity,” he said.
