Greek government dispatches 250 special police officers to Kos

Situation tense on the island

The Greek government decided to deploy 2 teams of 250 Special Police forces to the island of Kos via C-130 airplanes, in an effort to provide reinforcements to the local police precinct and defuse the situation. The atmosphere remains tense following an incident where a Greek police officer slapped a migrant while he was waiting in line. The local police force is understaffed to deal with 7,000 illegal immigrants and refugees, with concerns that this number could increase even more. The Mayor of Kos warned that there might be ‘bloodshed’ if measures are not taken to control the situation.
