Greek PM Alexis Tsipras will meet with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, Monday, on the sidelines of the UN World Humanitarian Summit to take place in Constantinople on May 23 and 24. The bilateral meeting is expected to focus on the crucial EU-Turkey refugee agreement, which has recently been tested due to Turkey’s unwillingness to implement the necessary reforms on its anti-terrorist laws.
Tsipras is expected to point out the significant role Turkey plays in stemming the refugee flows to Europe, while asking for the continuation of cooperation between Greece and Turkey within this framework. According to sources, the Greek PM will also raise the issue of Turkey’s increased violation of Greek airspace in the Aegean Sea. Upon his arrival in Turkey, Tsipras is scheduled to meet with UN General Secretary Ban ki Moon before meeting with the Turkish President.
