Alternate Interior Minister for Civil Protection Yiannis Panousis on Monday sent a message to police headquarters in Greece urging them to step up their involvement in cases concerning the mistreatment of animals. The minister urged the police to show “social responsibility” and protect animals in cases of abuse by bringing those responsible to justice as well as taking care of strays until they find shelter. Panousis also urged the police to cooperate with municipal groups and animal welfare organizations.
