Inmates extend ominous “welcome” for murdered Ani’s dad

The unwritten law of prison is harsher than that of the law of the land… Ani’s father in same cell as other child killer who died in 1996, unable to handle brutal treatment

Greek prisons are typically horrid, overcrowded places but more so for convicted pedophiles or child murderers. News that Savvas Borisova – little Ani’s father who murdered and boiled the body of his own child – was being charged zapped through the prison system and prisoners are waiting for him. For his own protection he is being kept at an isolated cell at a jail on the island of Corfu, away from other inmates until the trial.

In Greece, child murderers typically have short and unpleasant prison stays as they are traditionally abused by their peers. Inmates are already waiting for the Bulgarian national to be tried by the law of the land before he faces the general prison population. “Tell the bastard we’re waiting for him!” is the general sentiment in prisons around the country.

His first night in prison

Proto Thema’s sources at Corfu prison said that the man charged with infanticide has not left his cell and will not come into contact with other inmates. He was given medical treatment as a result of his drug addiction and had dinner. Other inmates are restless, however guards are doing all they can to avoid an episode.

The father is staying at the same cell that Manolis Douris had been held at after being charged with murdering his son, aged six, after he was found brutally wounded, having suffered sexual abuse, on December 31, 1993. Back then, Douris had been given rough treatment by other inmates. On February 24, 1996, unable to handle the rough treatment he was getting, Douris put an end to his own life at Tripolis prison. He was found hanging in his cell.
