A secret IMF document leaked reveals the reasons Greece’s debt is unsustainable and the necessity for a write off. According to the document the IMF believes that for the country’s debt to be viable payments should be extended over a 60 year period. The report, which sources say was requested Tuesday by the Brussels Group was in the possession of IMF head Christine Lagarde during negotiations between Greece and the EU creditors on Sunday and Monday. The document states categorically that Greece’s debt has become highly unsustainable. It continues by underlining that the deterioration of the debt points to debt relief on the scale that would need to go well beyond what has been under consideration to date.
