Migration minister Mouzalas promises improvements to Greek hotspot system

Italy and Greece are the main entryways to Europe and face the same problem, he said

Alternate Minister for Migration Policy Yiannis Mouzalas visited the Italian island of Lampedusa and its refugee reception center during the second day of his visit in Italy.

Mr. Mouzalas met on Thursday Italian Minister of the Interior Affairs Angelino Alfano and agreed on Greece and Italy cooperation to deal with the refugee issues.

“The flows [of refugees] are much smaller than those we face in our country, but I think it would serve us to make practical improvements to our hotspot system in Greece,” the minister told ANA-MPA after his visit.

He also reiterated the view that Italy and Greece are the main entryways to Europe and face the same problem, although with different intensity. “It’s an especially useful exchange [of expertise] and the competent authorities in both countries must continue to have an efficient contact,” he added.
