Moscovici ‘non’ to Grexit scenario – We’ll do everything in our power prevent it

"all issues must be resolved in a quiet, peaceful and calm manner"

Newsroom January 31 01:18

“We will do everything in our power to prevent Greece exiting the euro zone”, European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici told the BBC on Saturday while wearing the white “political hat”. When he switched “political hats”, to the black, he clarified: “The new Greek government must continue with the commitments of the previous one.”

“We strongly believe that Greece belongs within the euro zone … The euro needs Greece while Greece needs and wants to stay in the euro zone”.

Furthermore, Moscovici expressed a conviction that “it is very important for stability in the euro zone and for the euro’s credibility that a ‘Grexit’ is avoided… Which is why we will do whatever it takes to avoid it”, he added.

Moscovici added that Europe must respect the will of the Greek people and electoral results.

Taking a queue from Friday’s stiff comments and body language that characterized the Eurogroup chief’s contacts in Athens, he underlined that “all issues must be resolved in a quiet, peaceful and calm manner.”
