Museum cleaner stabbed in leg after asking group of migrants to move

Natl Archaeological Museum’s lawn the latest … makeshift camp in downtown Athens for foreign nationals offloaded from isles

A foreign national, reportedly identified through CCTV footage, was arrested on Saturday for the knife attack against a National Archaeological Museum cleaner, hours earlier in front of the building in central Athens.

The suspect was one of several Middle Eastern or Afghan young men that routinely camp out on the lawn in front of the museum over the past few days, given the thousands of refugees/migrants/irregular migrants being transported by ferry boat from several eastern Aegean on a daily basis after first sneaking onto Greek territory.

According to police, the foreign man – whose nationality and age was not given – stabbed the cleaner in the leg after the latter asked him and a group of others to move so he could pick up rubbish from the site.

The wound the man sustained was not life threatening.
