The conservative New Democracy party plans to vote for Greek human rights lawyer Zoi Konstantopoulou, who has been nominated as Parliament president by the ruling Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government.

Born in Athens in 1976, she is a graduate of the University of Athens Law School and also collaborated on a program offering free legal aid in collaboration to the university. She took part in the Erasmus Program and completed post-graduate studies on penal rights at the Sorbonne. She also completed a second post-graduate course on human rights at the University of Columbia.

She is the daughter of long-time leftist politician and attorney Nikos Konstantopoulos and Lina Alexiou, vice-president of independent broadcasting watchdog (ESR) in the country.

Konstandopoulou is considered a feisty lawyer and has often offered her services pro bono to help disadvantaged groups.

She has served on the committee on European Affairs, for the environment as well as the inter-party committee for German war reparations.
