Parliament Vice President Alexis Mitropoulos on Tuesday blamed former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis for the worsening situation in Greece during an interview with private MEGA TV. “With his lack of modesty, his naivety, his zeal when showcasing his own ideas, it seems that he has hurt the Grek issue,” said Mitropoulos. “German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and the creditors were likely aware of his intentions and as a result we are now forced to accept these harsh measures and plan.” Furthermore, Mitropoulos wonders if Varoufakis had expressed his plans as a threat, making Greece’s creditors aware of them.
Along the same lines, sources close to former conservative new democracy prime minister Antonis Samaras spoke of how Varoufakis is a dangerous liability for Greece. They added that whether Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is aware of it or not, he is an “accomplice”.
