Mytilene is an ancient city founded in the 11th century BC, the capital of the North Aegean region. The island is known for its sandy beaches, crystal clear water and antiquity. The island has been associated with lesbianism due to ancient poetess Sappho and that is one reason why it changed its name from Lesbos to Mytilene.
