Portugal, Spain: We won't support SYRIZA gov't in case of conflict with EU

Both countries reject scenarios for a European conference on debt

Newsroom January 30 05:47

Recession-plagued Spain and Portugal sent a more-or-less “sobering” message to the new Greek government on Friday, essentially saying “adios” to any scenarios for a European conference on debt.

According to a statement by the Portuguese PM’s office, Portugal will not agree to a European conference on debt restructuring.

“Portugal, Ireland and Spain have implemented the necessary reforms and continue to do so. We will not frighten investors with a conference that will deal with remission in the EU. We may have high debt, but it is sustainable,” was the statement out of Lisbon.

At the same time, the head economic adviser to the Spanish premier, made clear it clear through a Madrid ratio station that Greece can follow any policy of its desire, provided it does not come into conflict with the EU.

“If Greece does not provoke the EU there will be no problem, otherwise there will be problems on every front,” he said.
