Refugees and illegal immigrants rampage UN food storage

Violent incidents spreading

Newsroom April 4 07:57

The frustration of entrapped refugees in Greece is gradually, but steadily, turning into desperation causing a rise in violent incidents across Greece. Following a spate of violent clashes among Syrian, Iraqi and Pakistani refugees and illegal immigrants, the latest case involved a group of refugees and illegal immigrants who broke into and trashed a UN food storage facility located near the Idomeni camp in northern Greece, after they disliked the food that was given to them. During the rampage a local resident said he was threatened by a knife-wielding immigrant. In a separate incident, the Kilkis nurses union complained an ambulance stretcher bearer at its hospital was beaten by a Moroccan illegal immigrant after the latter was taken to hospital. The Moroccan was under the influence of alcohol and drug substances, according to the Kilkis hospital staff. Meanwhile, the Greek government is still trying to persuade refugees and illegal immigrants in the Idomeni camp to abandon it and accept the reality of the closed borders, ruling out so far the use of force to move them.
