Schengen area: EU welcomes Turkey and expels Greece

The correspondent of ERT posted on Twitter that Greek passengers traveling from Athens to Paris went through passport control

Greece’s citizens are forced to go through passport control within Schengen area, while European Commission suggests the lifting of visa requirements for Turkish citizens who travel to EU.

The correspondent of Greek public broadcaster ERT in France, Thomais Papaioannou, sparked a massive debate on social media when she revealed her own experience on how Greeks are now treated when traveling within Schengen area. As she reported, EU treats them as if they are not EU citizens who enjoy free movement within Schengen area and are forced to go through passport controls.

Specifically, she posted on her Twitter account that those who were traveling from Athens to Paris, including her, went through passport control. When she asked why that happened, she was told that was not a permanent measure and it was not a measure against Greece.

In another post, she wrote: “They do not know why the crew announced to passengers that flights from Greece will be permanently considered non-Schengen flights as of 23/4”.
