Former prime minister Alexis Tsipras may well be using the Lagarde list investigation to promote his election campaign, however this has not stopped him from hobnobbing with people on the list. He said on Sunday that no one should dare put obstacles in efforts to investigate the names of Lagarde list warning that anyone who would try to stop this effort “will have to face SYRIZA and (Tsipras) personally”.
Tsipras has criticised the inclusion of former conservative National Democracy (ND) prime minister Antonis Samaras’ consultant on the Lagarde list. Tsipras, however, has yet to state whether there is an ethical issue raised by the fact that he spent some days at the holiday house of Greek ship-owner Athanasios Martinos whose name is featured on the Lagarde list.
Proto Thema revealed the photos of the former PM and his friends having a good time, while capital controls had been imposed on Greek banks. While Greeks were lining up at ATM machines, Tsipras was enjoying the hospitality of a person who is included on the list.
Whether it is right or wrong for a PM to enjoy luxury vacations accompanied by business men is something which will be judged by history.
However, Tsipras is called to answer to some questions. Who paid for his stay at the villa? Did the ship-owner host former PM? Was the villa rented by a friend of Tsipras? Is the villa still rented for the rest of year? Was there any receipt issued?
