Tourist arrivals and overnight stays rose by 8.7 % and 5.5% respectively in 2014, compared with the previous year, according to Hellenic Statistical Authority.
Total room occupancy in hotels (except campings) rose to 47.3% in 2014 from 45.2% in 2013.
The report showed that 85.1% of arrivals and 92.4% of overnights stays in hotel-type and campings was recorded from April to October, proving that the tourist season has expanded compared with the previous years.
82.9% of arrivals and 91.8% of overnight stays refer to European tourists with the UK having the biggest share with 11.9% of arrivals and 14.3% of stays, followed by Germany (11.7% and 16.1%), France (7.7% and 6.6%), Italy (5.5 % and 4.5%), Holland (3.7% and 4.6%) and Sweden (3.4% and 3.9%). Russia’s share was 8.6% of arrivals and 12% of overnight stays.
