Tsipras: Greece needs EU help in dealing with migration

Migration is not just a Greek problem, but a European one

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras pointed out that migration is a critical issue for the whole of Europe, not just Greece. Ahead of a meeting on the refugee crisis, he said that Greece is Europe’s border and receives massive refugee flows.

He pointed out that the way in which migration is handled will prove whether there is solidarity in Europe. Furthermore, he said that any handling of the migration issue should include a consultation with Turkey because 2 million refugees flood in from there. He also said that Syria and Libya also need to be included on a consultation of migration.

The prime minister pointed out that Greece is in crisis, underlining that the country is in no position to handle the huge influx without European help. “We want and we make every effort to help them, but there must be a direct response from the EU,” said Tsipras.
