Tsipras: Troika is history

Mr. Tsipras said that the people gave SYRIZA a clear mandate

Commenting on his party success in Sunday’s general elections, SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras underlined in a nationally televised victory speech that “today the Greek people have made history, hope has made history.”

Addressing his party’s supporters at a caucus held in the center of Athens,Tsipras said the Greek people gave SYRIZA a clear mandate and sent a clear message that austerity and the troika of country’s lenders belong in the past.

Stressing  that “there are no winners or losers” in this election battle, he also heralded the end of “era of oligarchy” in Greece.

Moreover, he spoke of an unprecedented wave of support and solidarity from many European countries.

The 40-year-old leftist leader said the new government will negotiate with the country’s partners in order to find a fair and mutually acceptable solution with regard to the debt issue.

“Come Monday we begin hard work. The people’s verdict cancels the memorandums of austerity and destruction and makes the troika history,” SYRIZA’s leader stressed.

With regard to the new government’s plans, Mr. Tsipras said that “Greece will present its national plan of reforms, without new deficits but also without unrealistic surpluses. Neither a rift nor submission,” Tsipras added.

Concluding his speech, SYRIZA’s head said the new government’s priority was “that the country and our people regain their lost dignity.”
