Turkish F-16 flies over Greek isle during DM’s visit

The Turkish aircraft was part of a formation that entered the Athens FIR at 11.13

Defense Minister Panos Kammenos on Friday visited the small isle of Farmakonissi as part of his tour of small isolated islands in the eastern Aegean, which includes stops on Agathonisi, Kastellorizo, Stroggyli and Ro.

However, shortly before a helicopter carrying the Defense Minister and military leadership landed on the island, an provocation was reported.

A Turkish F-16 flew above the small isle at an altitude of 15,000 feet, at the exact moment the helicopter was preparing to land, at 11.15 am.

According to an announcement by the General Staff, the Turkish warplane was part of a formation that entered the Athens FIR at 11.13, flying over the sea between islands of Samos and Kos.

The formation left the Athens FIR a minute later, flying again over the same area. The Turkish aircraft were recognized and intercepted by Greek F-16s.
