He claimed that it was something that all professors did.

Newsroom October 27 02:42

Former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis did not give any convincing answer regarding his rate for giving speeches worldwide following the information revealed by Proto Thema according to which Mr. Varoufakis receives $60,000 for his participation in an event, either as a keynote or as a participant in a panel.

Instead he made things even more complicated confirming though his outrageous fee for a speech. He said that when he was not a famous professor he would get tens of thousands euros for a speech, but now that he is one of the most renowned and famous people in economics, his fee is about 1000 euros!

According to Vimatodoti, Mr. Varoufakis makes jokes during his speeches, while at University of Cambridge, where he gave a speech on Monday, he said “I came to give a speech and grab 55,000 pounds and leave”.

However, when it was highlighted that there are agencies that claim they book speeches for him for 66,000 euros, as revealed by Proto Thema newspaper, he admitted that kind of speeches were made before he became a minister and MP and he indeed had received a lot of money claiming that it was something that all professors did. He also said that this was a corporate fee, meaning that he charged that amount only for speeches organized by banks and multinational corporations.
