Warning issued for torrential rain and thunderstorms in Greece

The rain and thunderstorms will gradually recede to Eastern Macedonia on Wednesday

The National Meteorological Service (EMY) warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms in Greece which will last through Wednesday.

On Monday the weather will deteriorate throughout the country, starting with thunderstorms in the Ionian Sea on the west and moving east to the Cycladic Islands, Crete, and possibly northern and eastern Aegean islands.

Athens and Attica region overall will also be affected, while the temperature will drop noticeably in the west.

On Tuesday, the weather will improve in the Ionian Sea and the west, including western Peloponnese, but heavy rain and thunderstorms will continue to the rest of the country.

The rain and thunderstorms will gradually recede to Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the northern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese Islands on Wednesday, possibly lasting to midday Thursday.
