More specifically, the highest distinction in the category “Fleet Renewal” was awarded in recognition of the very significant investment of 140 million euros that BLUE STAR FERRIES, subsidiary of ATTICA GROUP, made amid the economic crisis for the design, construction and launch of two modern, high-speed passenger ferries, namely BLUE STAR DELOS and BLUE STAR PATMOS.
The two ships were launched in November 2011 in the Cyclades and in July 2012 in the Chios – Mytilini line, respectively. “The launch of the ships in times of crisis was a big leap in the shipping services provided by our country and contributes to the development of tourism and thus the development of the islands, for the benefit of their residents and their guests”, announced Attica Group.
“An equally great distinction is the SILVER AWARD which we received in the category ‘Local communities support’, with the corporate social responsibility program of our Group, entitled ‘Sun Protection’. The program is being implemented since 2008 in the Aegean islands, in collaboration with the NGO MELAMPOUS and offers free exams for pigmented skin lesions (moles and freckles) and skin tumors, their free surgical removal and informative speeches about the hazards of prolonged exposure to the sun and prevention”. The announcement goes on to add:
“Specifically, since 2008 through the ‘Sun Protection’ program
We visited 14 islands
3,371 people were examined
102 surgical removals and biopsies were conducted
854 mole mappings and photography sessions took place
23 malignant neoplasms were diagnosed
Attica Group operates in the field of passenger shipping in the Adriatic Sea and the Greek Shipping lines (Cyclades, Dodecanese, Chios, Lesvos and Crete).
