Three cruise ships will enter the port of Volos during Holy Week and the first one is expected to arrive tomorrow, whereas the last one on Easter Sunday, April 20.
According to the Volos Port Authority, the cruise ship MSC Synfonia of MSC Cruises is expected to arrive tomorrow at 8 am from Varna.
The upward trend recorded in the cruise ships arriving at the Volos port in 2014, compared to 2013, is confirmed by the data published by Volos Port Authority.
40 cruise ships are scheduled to arrive this year compared to last year (31 cruises), carrying 20,227 passengers.
The aim of Volos Municipality is to present the city’s port as a harbor cruise so as the cruise lines would include it in their itinerary routes.
“We have made great efforts to include our port in the harbor cruise category” said the chairman of the Commission for Tourism Promotion of Volos Municipality, Soula Bartzioka and added: “… cruise ships are considered to be an added value for the region and will boost our local economy, so we are trying to increase the number of cruise lines that will include our port in their cruise lines itinerary routes.”
To achieve this goal, the municipality created a technical brochure with interesting tours, excursions, activities and sightseeing including Meteora and Pelion villages. This technical brochure is provided to the cruise lines so as to show how many options their passengers could enjoy in the area.
Besides this technical brochure, Mrs Bartzioka and the shipping agents suggested to a Greek shipping company a certain ” circular ” cruise. This cruise is expected to be included in its itinerary routes in 2015.
The “circular” cruise includes the following ports:
Piraeus-Volos – Thessaloniki – Istanbul – Izmir- Canakkale -Mykonos-Piraeus
