As it was announced on Tuesday, the Judicial Council accepted a request submitted by the defence of Rebecca Skaftoura, ex-wife of jailed real estate investor Ioannis Carouzos, and released her with conditions after posting a 500,000-euro bail.
Mrs. Skaftoura, who denies all charges against her, was in custody since September 2013 pending her trial in connection with the Carouzos Group tax evasion and money-laundering case. She had been arrested on charges of actively participating in a number of illegal actions allegedly organized with her former husband, given that she held an executive position in their group of companies involved in the construction sector.
She is accused of tax evasion amounting to 30 million euros, money laundering and moral complicity in breach of faith allegedly committed by executives of four banks, who approved risky loans for the Carouzos Group amounting to 300 million euros.
