Gerry Rice, during the IMF’s standard weekly press conference expressed concern about political developments in Greece due to the municipal and regional elections in May.
As he stated, in reply to a question from Mega channel correspondent Michalis Ignatiou, ahead of elections in Greece, the IMF is concerned about the possibility of political instability.
“In the Greek program, like other programs, political stability is an important issue”, stated Mr. Rice.
Speaking on the debt issue, the IMF representative noted that “the Greek public debt is already high and is expected to remain high”, and added that European partners of Greece and lenders have agreed to debt relief, if necessary, provided that Greece will continue to keep to its commitments and to implement the reforms agreed upon.
