In honor of International Museum Day, celebrated on May 18, the editors of online architectural magazine Archdaily selected twenty amazing museums around the world, which according to them are “well worth visiting again”. The list includes world-renowned museums such as the Museum of Acropolis and the MAXXI and also much less known museums, which stand out due to their inspiring architectural style, such as the Medieval Museum, the Natural History Museum of Utah and Muritzeum.
Apart from the priceless archaeological treasures housed in the Acropolis Museum, the magazine’s editors make extensive reference to the museum’s simple and clear design, which has a direct link with the mathematical and conceptual clarity of ancient Greece. The location of the museum is also perfect. Less than 1,000 feet southeast of Parthenon, in the historic Makriyanni district, the museum seems to be “right at home”. The top floor of the museum (Parthenon Gallery) offers panoramic views of the Acropolis and modern Athens. The museum is entered from the Dionysius Areopagitou pedestrian street which links it to the Acropolis and other key archaeological sites in Athens.
