The votes that the candidates of Golden Dawn gained last Sunday across country are seem to be a bone of contention for the fighters of the second round of elections. What they are especially aiming to are the percentage that Elias Kasidiaris gained in Athens Municipality (16.12%) and Elias Panagiotaros in Attica region (11.13%).
Parties open up to Golden Dawn voters since they might determine the outcome of the elections for both Athens municipality and Attica region.
SYRIZA opened up to Golden Dawn’s voters clearer with party’s spokesman, Panos Scourletis, stating that “we welcome every vote that is deducted from Nazism and fascism” adding that “every vote that leaves from Golden Dawn is a good thing for democracy,”.
Also, the candidate of SYRIZA for Athens Municipality, Gabriel Sakellaridis, said that he understands the “anger and frustration” expressed by those who voted Golden Dawn and said that “I believe that 16% of the Athens citizens who voted for Kasidiaris are not Nazi,”.
The line adopted by Mr Sakellaridis and SYRIZA in general, caused the reaction of PASOK, which with a statement denounced the opposition party, accusing it of “guilty leaks towards media, creating a climate of forgiveness for the Neo-Nazi, criminal, and racist organization Golden Dawn,”.
Also, Giorgos Kaminis addressed to voters of Golden Dawn by stating during an interview on “The Toc” website that “We have democracy and each candidate has an obvious debt to address to all voters, to voters of the Golden Dawn, to everyone,”.
