The magazine Forbes includes extensive reference to the recent energy projects announced in Greece.
As it mentions “Greece moved to kick-start its dormant energy exploration effort last week with the approval of three exploration licences, each allocated to consortiums led by domestic companies,”.
Among other things, it is noted that the two licenses were awarded to Greek Energean Oil & Gas, which announced that it will cooperate with Canada’s Petra Petroleum, for research in the area of Ioannina and the British Trajan Oil for research in the area of Katakolo while the third license was awarded to a consortium of Hellenic Petroleum, Edison and Petroceltic for offshore research in the Gulf of Patras.
The report describes as “positive” the developments of these exploration licences, while expressing concern for “further delays” in implementing the research projects, since the licenses should be ratified by the Parliament, where “we may experience turmoil” within next few weeks as a result of the upcoming European elections.
Regarding the policy of SYRIZA, the main opposition party, concerning this issue, the article mentions that the “far-left party has avoided making any specific comments regarding the licenses, but they have previously spoken out in favor of nationalizing the country’s natural resources,”.
It also indicates that the “threat of nationalization will make it difficult to appeal to foreign investors already wary of the country’s financial landscape,”.
However, the article includes the statement of Energean CEO Mathias Rigas who remains confident that the projects will be ratified without any promblems.
