The late Melina Merkouri once begun a great campaign, which is now being joined by an ever-increasing number of people in the world, including scientists, famous personalities, artists and scholars. They have all embraced the notion of returning the Parthenon Marbles to their rightful place in Greece and are seemingly unstoppable in their tenacity to see it through.
The Marbles must be returned to Greece and take their lawful place in the Acropolis Museum. In order to raise awareness on the issue, renowned Greek soprano Sonia Theodoridou and her husband, distinguished conductor Theodoros Orphanidis, have taken it upon themselves to present a unique artistic project on Pentecost, Sunday June 8th. The “protest” event will be hosted by the Hagia Sophia Greek Church in London (Moscow Road, Bayswater, London W2 4LQ UK), immediately after the church service at 13.00 p.m.
Will the Caryatids be able to call their sister back home? Will the British people realize that the Marbles were stolen and must be returned? The goal of this specific performance is to bring lucidity to peoples’ consciences and speak to the hearts of people who know that these kinds of cultural injustices must be restored.
Anyone and everyone is welcome on Sunday, June 8th, at the Hagia Sophia Church in London.
