Christos Gortsos, secretary-general of the Hellenic Bank Association, addressed FIN-NET’s assembly meeting operating under the auspices of European Commission. He stated that there is clear evidence that the banking system is becoming stronger.
“A recent successful completion of a recapitalization plan of the country’s four systemic banks, exclusively through private funding, and the first bond issuance by Greek banks in almost five years, offer clear evidence on the stability and further strengthening of liquidity in our banking system,” stated Gortsos.
Addressing the assembly, the HBA officer referred to the impact that the recent international financial and fiscal crisis had on the Greek banking system, the measures taken to deal with the problem, and the restructuring of the domestic banking system.
Current developments in the European banking sector and the progress made towards a banking union, were discussed in the meeting.
