All construction projects depend on the spatial and urban planning, Alternate Environment Minister Nikolaos Tagaras said, referring to the bill on spatial and urban reform to be voted on Wednesday under an emergency procedure in Parliament.
The bill, which is part of the country’s memorandum obligations, provides for significant changes in the use of land.
“The goal of the reform is to update the previous plans and clear overlaps, conflicts and ambiguities, which had serious consequences for citizens, public administration and investments,” Tagaras noted.
He underlined that the planning levels will be reduced to four from seven, and decentralised administrations will be given the right to approve the new urban plans and their amendments so that the process is completed within a few months.
The ministry intends to maintain the role of the coordinator in the spatial and urban changes through the use of new technologies and the creation of an electronic database connected with the ministries, so that it is automatically updated with any new information.
