Turkey: Erdogan's candidacy for president to be announced on 1st of July

The presidential election is scheduled to be held on August 8

The ruling party, Justice and Development Party (AKP), will announce the name of the candidate for the presidency on July 1, a Turkish official of the party said to Reuters agency.

The name of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan is expected to be announced as a candidate for the presidency.

Former Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, was nominated last week by Republican People’s Party (CHP) and the Nationalist Action Party (MHP).

The presidential election is scheduled to be held on August 8.
