Deputy Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said the government will restore the wages and pensions of uniformed officers as had been done in the case of judiciary officials. He revealed that this will take place as soon as the relevant legistration is drafted.
The cost of wages and pensions cut from August 1, 2012, will be restored and paid retroactively because these cutbacks for the military, police force, coastal guards and fire brigade were deemed unconstitutional.
The government is seeking dialogue with the representatives of the military and security forces at the start of next week. According to sources, the first meetings of the Ministry of Finance’s legal services with the State’s Legal Council have begun.
