The government intends to create a joint mechanism for the payment social insurance contributions and tax revenues, according to a decision by Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis and Labour Minister Yiannis Vroutsis.

The feasibility study for the new mechanism is being prepared and will be ready by September 30, 2014, while the collection of insurance contributions will have been integrated in the tax administration by July 1, 2017.

AThe new model of joint collection of contributions and taxes will allow social security institutions to focus on their main responsibilities which are to serve citizens and issue benefits to beneficiaries and not the collection of contributions.
