With great success was completed the first semester of the new school of the Greek Community in Melbourne for children who have Greek as their mother language.
Many families who left Greece because of the economic crisis, trusted the new community school of Greek language for their children. Parents, teachers and students have express their satisfaction for the school, while the increasing number of registrations is another indication of its success.
“In the occasion of the large number of Greeks who have recently arrived in Australia, the community this year has launched a new effort in the field of learning the Greek language by creating a new school aimed at students who have Greek as a native language,” says the coordinator of the new school Ms Maria Bakalidou.
The aim of the school is to keep children in a high level the Greek that they already have and add to it. “For this reason, the teaching is based on the books taught in schools of Greece,” adds Ms Bakalidou. “As the students have come from Greece, they are already familiar with the structure of these books and can meet their requirements.”
The importance of the new school stresses the director of community schools Mr. Manos Tzimpragos, by saying that the school meets the particular needs of a large number of students who have Greek as their mother language.
“The success of the new venture is that comes to meet the unique needs of students who have recently come from Greece and using Greek as their first language,” he said. “In addition, our school connects in a way a school in Greece that children are familiar with and helps them that way to adjust to their new life.”
