The new Finance Minister will talk at the Economist conference which will be held in Athens about Greece’s achievements, the obstacles that the Greek economy faces and the difficult years of Memorandum period.
Mr. Hardouvelis, according to government sources, will attempt to stress that Greek citizens cannot bear any more the tax burden.
The new Finance Minister is also expected to emphasize that since Greece managed to avoid the bankruptcy through the sacrifices of its people, the measures taken under pressure should be reconsidered.
The situation has changed now, it is not the same as two years ago. Greece managed to achieve a primary surplus earlier than it was expected, the country returned to markets and borrowed at more reasonable rates and many reforms were promoted, while a further debt relief is expected. Under those circumstances, Mr. Hardouvelis may talk so as Greece will be benefit from the ECB funding in the future.
The Economist conference will be attended by representatives of the IMF, EU, ECB. The head of ESM Mr. Klaus Regling and his successor Matthias Mors, as well as Declan Costello will also attend the conference and will have a special meeting with Mr. Hardouvelis before Troika returns, on Thursday.
