There’s no better way to enjoy Greek sun, sea and sand and building rapport with the natural world by exposing your bare skin to it. The country is dotted with naturist beaches where people can go nude like the ancients once did in their games and art.
Topless sunbathing is tolerated everywhere, however Greece has an abundance of bare sandy beaches that are barer than all the rest. While remote islands are abundant, nudism is officially tolerated only in particular beaches. These usually are surrounded by cliffs or high trees.
Here’s the list:
Super Paradise, Mykonos
The party island couldn’t help but have two nudist beaches. The most famous one of the two is Super Paradise. The beach, with crystalline waters and soft golden sand, draws naturists who wish to combine skinny dipping with fancy cocktails. It attrackts a large homosexual community, however sometimes can get quite crowded, cramping the style of someone who wants to enjoy nakedness for the sake of being natural.
Red Beach, Crete
The island offers a number of sandy beaches to people who wish to live outside the standard moral codes. Red Beach is on the Southern part of the island, some 25 minutes away from Matala, home of the Sixties hippy colony. The beautiful beach is hidden behind a rocky hill and a fence and is a small paradise for nude swimmers. Another Cretan beach that is a meeting point for both Greek and international naturists is Filaki that is located near the nudist Vritomartis Hotel.
Little Banana Beach, Skiathos
There are three beaches on the island’s nudist corner, however Little Banana Beach is the only “official” one of the island. Not to be confused with the big Banana Beach, the nudist beach is a walk round the rocks to the right of the big banana (as you face the sea).
Mirtiotissa Beach, Corfu
Nudism can be enjoyed surrounded by breathtaking cliffs and wild vegetation. The beach first earned its nudist reputation in the Seventies when it was discovered by hippies. Back then, nudism was practiced in a cloistered and secret environment. These days, the secret is out, but thankfully the area has remained undeveloped.
Kendros Beach, Donnousa
The small island near Naxos is a favorite amongst nudists wishing to enjoy summer holidays away from the crowds. Free camping is allowed at Kendros, however they aren’t nude all day long.
Psaralaki Beach, Antiparos
Psaralaki has two beaches, Psaralaki I and II. Both have nudists, however the second beach gathers less people in the summer period and is ideal for nudists to relax.
Kastellia Beach, Karpathos
Conservative locals are appalled by the nude beach of Karpathos, just beyond Mikra and Megali Amopi.
