German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her faith in the triumph of Germany in the World Cup against Argentina, 24 hours before kickoff.

“We should not underestimate Argentina, but our team will give everything they have. I am betting on their triumph”, stressed the chancellor at a meeting of the CDU party.

Merkel will closely monitor the German team’s efforts in Rio de Janeiro.

Franz Beckenbauer appeared confident of Germany’s win as well. “We will win 2-0 and we will be the champions”, he said, in an interview with Bild newspaper.
