A 34 year old drug addict, in desperate need of money for his drug dose, didn’t even hesitate to brutally beat his own grandfather in order to rob him of his savings. When failing to do so, he tried to flee to Bulgaria but was arrested in his effort to cross the border.

In broad daylight, the 34 year old who already has a police record on the grounds of drugs and Arms Act violations, began threatening his grandfather in their own yard, in this Evros region small village, demanding 1000 euro. When the elderly man refused, he mercilessly beat him, still unable to extract the desirable amount of money.

The neighbors who witnessed this abhorrent scene verbally attacked the 34 year old man and called the police, something which made him run off in an unknown direction. A few hours later,he was arrested by officers of the Didymoteiho national security, while attempting to flee the country through the border passageway of Kastania. He was thereafter taken to the misdemeanor public Prosecutor’s office in Orestiada. There, he was charged with assault and robbery. The elderly man was taken to hospital, where he was given the necessary first aid treatment before returning to his home.
