Daily Mail: Sailing in the Cyclades is an awesome odyssey!

"With so many beautiful islands, the celestial Cyclades really are a playground of the gods," states the article.

Newsroom August 6 05:35

A feature article published by the Daily Mail focuses on the amazing adventure experienced by the eight passengers of Ikaros, a 50 ft yacht, during a week’s sailing and island-hopping around the Greek Cyclades, under the auspices of the company ‘Off The Beaten Track’.

The members of the group, part friends, part like-minded strangers enthusiastically describe their adventure. The idea of the trip, as the columnists underlines, was to let the wind steer them “off the tourist trail to deserted beaches, ancient sites, and hidden bars and restaurants while sampling traditional Greek food and befriending locals.”

Like Odysseus the group of travelers were blown off course, which means they weren’t able to visit Ios. Instead, they took shelter overnight in Katapola on the little island of Amorgos.

Next port of call is Naxos, the island where Zeus was born according to Greek mythology.

“The landscape is typically Mediterranean: rocky yet verdant with yellow broom brushes bulging from the roadsides. Tiny churches top every other hill, mount and bump in the road,” says the journalist.

On Siros, the passengers rose early to buy fish from the quayside and at Koufonisi, their skipper’s favourite island, they tasted traditional dishes followed by flaming ouzo liquor.

“With so many beautiful islands, the celestial Cyclades really are a playground of the gods,” concludes the article.

And sailing to and from them on a yacht offers a whole new perspective, something charter planes can never match.
