President of Republic Karolos Papoulias made the following statement on the occasion of lexicographer and philologist Emmanuel Kriaras’ death: “If the limits of the language are truly the limits of the world, then Emmanuel Kriaras taught us how to recognize and expand them. He was a wonderful teacher and philosopher who left behind him the legacy of his invaluable Lexicon along with lessons of thought and life. The deepness of his thought did not alienate him but brought him closer to the people, to whom he offered his wisdom with tenderness and simplicity.”
Emmanuel Kriaras, lexicographer and philologist, emeritus professor of the School of Philosophy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, died on Friday, August 22, in his home in Thessaloniki at the age of 108 of a heart attack.
