The 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by talk show host Seth Meyers, aired live on NBC Monday night from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The top awards went to “Breaking Bad” and “Modern Family” in the drama and comedy categories while “Sherlock” surprised with three wins of its own.
The show started with Meyers poking fun at the fact that the award was scheduled on Monday, “which, if i understand television, means the Emmys are about to get canceled.” The new time slot was chosen so as to not overlap with Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.
Beyonce presented the award for best supporting actor in a comedy series, which then cued Amy Poehler to walk onstage from her seat in the audience. Other famous presenters who participated in the show were Halle Berry, Sofia Vergara, Matthew McConaughey and Jimmy Fallon.
Billy Crystal gave a heartfelt tribute to his good friend, the late Robin Williams. “He made us laugh hard, every time you saw him on television, in arenas, hospitals, homeless shelters, and even in a dying girl’s living room,” said Crystal. “The relentless energy was kind of thrilling.”
