Former socialist PASOK prime minister George Papandreou has accepted an invitation by the party’s leader, Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos to take part in an event to mark the party’s 40th anniversary on September 3 at Zappeio hall.

The event is to showcase a photo exhibition being organized by the Andreas G. Papandreou Foundation. Former party chief Costas Simitis will also speak at the event.

There had been fears that Papandreou would host a separate event and this would have rekindled tension within the party. Late on Thursday, an agreement was reached late on Thursday. Sources close to Venizelos said that the photo exhibition at Zappeio from September 1 to 7 should be considered complimentary to the event being organized on September 3.
