A Turkish website praises Agiasos village in Lesbos

Agiasos, in Lesbos island, is a place with "a multitude of gifts to bequeath," according to the Dutch journalist Wilco Van Herpen

Newsroom September 5 10:22

Hurriyet Daily News published a comprehensive feature article on the beautiful village of Agiasos, in Lesbos island, a place with “a multitude of gifts to bequeath,” according to the Dutch journalist Wilco Van Herpen, who has been living and working in Turkey since 1999.

The Dutch journalist visited Agiasos together with a small group of people and Aris Lazaris, a Greek tour operator, was able to open doors for them that would otherwise have stayed closed, as the article mentions.

Travelling as a VIP and not as an ordinary tourist, Wilco first visited a library, where an old man was teaching a young boy how to play the santur, a beautiful and old stringed instrument.

The Dutch journalist, accompanied by his Greek “guide”, continued his tour at an orthodox church, with old authentic icons and amazing wood carving works. There he visited a room that was filled from the floor up to the ceiling with impressive offerings.

Van Herpen was impressed by the small streets of the village which are filled with flowers, wood and ceramic workshops and little cute souvenir shops. He also had the opportunity to enjoy a great meal at a local restaurant, recommended by the tour operator, in nearby Panagiouda village. It was so difficult to make a choice between the delicious appetizers, that he told the waitress to surprise him. A little while later, fried Feta cheese, fresh green beans, fried flowers of the Courgette, some nice yoghurt, calamari and octopus arrived to the table making this the perfect end to a perfect tour.
