Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will meet today at 11:00 local time on the sidelines of the NATO summit at Newport’s Celtic Manor in Wales and it is excepted to attract the attention, despite the current developments in Russia-Ukraine issue.

The Greek government is in line with NATO position on the issue of Ukraine and Russia and agrees even on forming an immediate force for ensuring the security of the countries of Eastern Europe, although it strongly supports the efforts to find a political solution and de-escalate the tension between alliances and Russia.

The meeting between Samaras and Erdogan is reportedly being held following a request by Erdogan, however the climate is expected to be tense following the statements of the Turkish President during his visit to the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus and the anti-racist bill submitted to the Greek Parliament and includes penalizing the denial of genocides perpetrated by Turkey. However, the Greek side avoids to openly announce the topics to be discussed.
