Greek Finance Minister at informal Eurogroup meeting in Milan

Greek Finance Minister G. Hardouvelis will discuss the sustainability of Greek debt with his European counterparts at the informal Eurogroup meeting

Newsroom September 12 12:18

The informal Eurogroup meeting in Milan on Friday is evaluating the progress made in the implementation of the Greek program. The meeting is being held following the government’s preliminary discussions with troika in Paris ahead of Athens talks in September.

A senior Eurozone source said that the discussions include a focus on the sustainability of Greek public debt, however he said that the most important negotiations are to be held following the evaluation of the Greek economy. Greece’s debt sustainability is linked to its fiscal performance in 2015. He said that member states are required to present their draft budgets for the coming year to the European Commission that will then be evaluated by EC officials by the end of October.

In Milan, Hardouvelis is expected to give his European counterparts Greece’s assurances that the country will live up to commitments stipulated in the bailout agreement.
