A shipwreck that dates back to the 16^th century was located two kilometers off the port of Zakynthos (Zante) in the Eighties by two local fishermen. The 20-meter-long vessel was studied by Greek archaeologists in cooperation with Oxford University scientists in the Nineties. Part of its hull salvaged from the sea was covered by a geotextile to protect it from further corrosion within a framework of an innovative method created by the Athens’ Technical Educational Institutes (TEI) but research was interrupted.

Now, the research team is back to dive in the area of the shipwreck in order to find and reveal the rest of the ship that is covered by tons of mud.

The shipwreck is the only one discovered that dates bck to the era of Philip II of Spain.
